Notes
Illustrated with uncolored relief prints .Each Goop is named for a mischievous or naughty childhood trait . The Goops are listed alphabetically and each has a story and a short verse explaining their fault . The introduction states that: "Children are human , I confess , though interesting none the less ; for one redeeming fault is like the necessary salt that brings a flavor rich and sweet into the viands that you eat . But there are faults like pepper , too--and like Tabasco not a few . So , if you find you have a vice , be sure it's just the proper spice ; of over-seasoning have a fear , and use it only once a year ! Three hundred virtues to one vice will keep you reasonably nice . That's what the Goops have come to teach , for they have only one of each! "
