Contextual Notes
The Multnomah Lumber & Box Company was headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Its president for many years was F.A. Douty. The company primarily operated in Lincoln County near the Yaquina Bay. In 1921, the company purchased the Yaquina Northern Railroad, which ran through Newport and Agate Beach. The railroad was constructed during World War I to provide access to spruce timber for the construction of aircrafts.
