Babi Yar is a ravine in northwest Kiev , where in only two days of mass shootings , September 28-29 , 1941 , over 30,000 Jews were murdered by the Nazi forces of occupation . The murder of Jews in Babi Yar continued until the end of the German occupation . During the Soviet period Babi Yar was memorialized only in music (Shostakovich) , in literature (Anatoly Kuznetsov) , and poetry (Yevgeny Yevtushenko)
