General view of the Yukon River at the time of the spring break-up. The photograph shows the town of Forty-Mile in the background and was kindly furnished the author by Mr. Charles W. Hall, agent of the Northern Commercial Company at that place. During the run of ice in 1900 the town was almost destroyed by the overflow caused by an ice jam
