Only a few hundred copies of four editions saw the light of day, but the Barb’s use of profanity and its endorsement of homosexual rights stirred a massive storm. SDS, then headed by Gordon Peterson, repudiated the paper, and its publishers in turn repudiated SDS for having no sense of humor or backbone.” (Crowley, Walt.
